Magpies A3 Print
‘Magpies’ A3 print.
Magpies in British folklore tend to be seen as harbingers of ill-fortune. Saluting a lone magpie is an old English tradition which is said to keep bad luck at bay. This custom may have come from the well-known rhyme:
‘One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a story never to be told’
Abbie Lois is an illustrator and printmaker based in Glasgow, whose work is inspired by storytelling and folklore. Her work usually has a specific lore behind the piece - themes surrounding landscapes, ancient creatures or interesting people.
Each print measures 210mm x 420mm (A3), and is digitally printed on to high quality 250gsm perlino cotton paper. It is protected by a cellophane sleeve.
