I got the keys 10 years ago!

Suzanne Nicol

10 years ago the lease was finalised after 7 weeks of negotiations and I got the keys to the empty unit at 1043 Cathcart Road.

I was terrified and excited and gave myself 2 years to see if I could make a go of being a shopkeeper.

I still have to pinch myself that the last 10 years haven't been a dream, that Sunshine No.1 exists, and we're still open and going strong.

Of course, it hasn't all been plain sailing and I've had a fair few challenges over the years - pandemic, flooded shop, cost of living crisis to name 3 and I've had a lot of sleepless nights. But I wouldn't change a thing!

I absolutely love what I do - from the amazing artists and makers from across Scotland who supply the shop to all our wonderful customers and, of course, every fantastic member of staff over the years who's helped support my vision of a high street shop to promote local and handcrafted art and gifts.

A huge THANK YOU to every one of you who's been there along the journey.

Here's to more years to come (fingers crossed!).

We'll be celebrating the 10 year anniversary on Saturday 9th August as the shop actually opened on 6th August 2015.

I'll keep you posted on what we've got planned nearer the time.
